Mobile Blogging on the move with a Blackberry or Iphone app for wordpress

Sometimes it can be a pain to get the time to submit to your blog, as you may have noticed I haven’t updated this blog for a couple of weeks as I have been quite busy so I apologise for that one.

Anyway I thought I would have a Google to see if there was anything that I could use for mobile blogging during those busy times and after a search I found a fantastic app for my Blackberry Bold 9000 that allows me to write my articles on the move, I don’t need a pc or laptop at all so this for me is fantastic indeed. I only know of the Wordpress app for mobiles so sorry to those who use any other format of blogging like drupal or Blogger but I will have a proper look in the future and update you if I find any other app so you can also blog on the move.

The wordpress app is very small and you will hardly notice that it is on your mobile phone at all, and the best of all is that is free to download and use and I have yet to find a fault with it at all, in-fact this article was written with my Blackberry while on a lunch break so you can see its very easy. On the Blackberry wordpress app you can accept your blog comments as well as delete the spam, edit comments or anything that you can do with a laptop just on a smaller screen and the Iphone app seems to do just the same, although I haven’t tested the Iphone version but I couldn’t see it being to much different from the blackberry app at all.

You can download the wordpress app for your blackberry or iphones on the links below:

Please do comment and let me know how you get on with it!

How to gain traffic to your blog

The number one goal for a blogger is for people to actually read there blog. Without guests they have no way of gaining traffic to there new blog. Although there are many ways to gain traffic to your blog, there are a few ways that stand out from the rest.

Here are some tips to gain traffic to your blog:

1. SEO Optimize your blog – SEO Optimizing means setting your blog to use keyword friendly URL’s, depending on your blogging software you can set your blog to use search engine friendly URL’s. If that is not an option, you should look for a program modification that will perform this task. Remember to target keywords in your post names, so that you can gain traffic from google, when people search for those keywords.

2. Build Links – This also goes with tip #1 because when you build links it can also help you rank higher in the search engines for your targeted keyword. A few ways to build links are: (a) Signature Links – Links on different forums, are great because it gives you a link on every post that person makes (b) Exchange Links – Find alike blog’s and build traffic together, it’s a great way to become friends with the competition.

Im a bloody idiot and love to steal content from websites

Please do excuse the title on this post, but I want to discuss something that affects all bloggers, web designers and forum owners or anyone that posts original and unique content. I am talking about plagiarism or as I prefer to call it…………. Thieving Untalented Scum!

If you see this article on any website OTHER than http://mysiteranked.com then this is a stolen article

Some may think that comment is a bit strong but when you build a blog or a website and you find out that someone has stolen the content you have spent time writing, only to find out someone lazy shit has just copy and pasted your work to take credit for it themselves.

You might ask why I get annoyed about this?

Google being as big as it is and the most powerful search engine in the world and most likely will be for the next few years at least, cannot tell the difference between the original author and the thief. I sort of see where Google is coming from as I guess that would be next to impossible to tell the difference, Unless they start to index quicker and then only credit the first person that puts the content on the internet. Surely possible?

You may still be thinking why I have entitled this post “Im a bloody idiot and love to steal content from websites”?

Well this is because of a website called page2rss.com which scans a website and this posts it onto page2rss and takes all of your content and every time you update your blog or website it will just have a quick look and steal it all. This in turn makes your unique website or blog…….. Not unique!!

Very soon page2rss will take this article and then post it onto its own website, and of course they will have this title!

Simple as that!  This then means that Google will think that your website is just a load of crap and can hit your pagerank, page listings!

So now I have probably freaked you out a bit, you might be thinking how can I protect myself? And the truth is there isn’t really alot that you can do other than use tools to check your content from time to time and if you find someone stealing your content the email the owner and request they remove the content, You can contact the domain registrar nd sometimes they will delete the domain(godaddy are great for it) or the only other option is to contact the hosting company.

Some tools you can use to find out if someones stealing your content :

http://copyscape.com which is one of the well known plagiarism online detector but the only downside is that they only let you  see the first 5/6 websites and the rest you have to sign up and pay to use it. I like copyscape for a quick check if I see a website I might buy.

The Tool I prefer is http://www.articlechecker.com I have used this nearly two years and it has helped me find a couple of scum bags where copyscape has let me down.

I hope this post will help you to find out if someone is stealing your content and be able to take action if you need to.

Lets go crazy……………..Google Pagerank Updated

30th Oct 2009 and Google has decided to update websites giving pagerank to those that “deserve” it and taking it away from those who dont!

Im a traffic fan, I prefer to concentrate on getting people to view my website and in turn, making some spare cash every month from my work. A couple of my websites have gone up in page rank between PR2 and PR4 so I guess it is nice to have some sort of reward for keeping the websites fresh and working hard to keep traffic flowing.

So what’s next in the PR update then?

Already nearly every webmaster forum is full of people selling links on their brand new page ranked website, nearly every new “webmaster” thinks they are now going to be rich by selling links on their blogs/websites. The truth is really one thing, it’s quite easy to get a PR update on your website if you keep your content fresh, the only time consuming part of getting page rank is waiting for Google to update the system.

I’m still wondering really what’s next. ?

I did a few checks on my keywords and 2 keywords out of my 20 keywords have dropped off the first page of Google, am I worried? No

I look at it that I just need to improve the promotion on those keywords, It will only take a week or so and I’ll have my place back again, never give up with promotion of your keywords and domain once you get pagerank. When the next Google PR update happens I should get even better pagerank and of course it will most likely drop me on a couple of keywords and ill do the same, learn from it and then improve and take my place on the search engines.

I have always said I am not bothered about PR as I am not a link seller and I have no plans to sell my main websites so ill just use it as a learning curve!

If your main is just to get PR and just post your links on high PR websites then you probably will fail in getting pagerank, remember Google is the top dog of the internet, like it or lump it!

Work on getting traffic, comment on the dofollow and nofollow links and keep your content fresh for your viewers then page rank will come on its own!

Why bother to SEO your website if downtimes crap?

Monitoring website downtimes is next to impossible for a individual and small businesses. There are lots of paid variations which allow you to analyze your websites for downtime, not many of these are worthwhile to use but eventually you have to pay a price in one way or another. Why work your ass off getting your keywords, header tags, and back links only for your server/hosting to be down more than it’s up!

I want to tell you about a free service I have been using for about 7months on my main website tiger-host.com. I must admit I love this service, its hassle free and simply sends me a email within a few minutes of my website downtime and then another when the sites back up.

Montastic allows you to monitor quite a few sites completely free and also provides you with a RSS feed to catch up with downtimes in your favourite feed reader. I will admit I haven’t ever used the RSS feeder feature so I couldn’t comment any further on this. I find email contact works fine for me and have no need for anything else.

It does not matter which hosting company or service you use, there is bound to be downtimes, server updates, reboots and this can’t be helped at all. As a human it is nearly impossible to monitor your site every minute of the day to see if it is up and running. Automated website monitoring tools alert you that your site is having a downtime, you can swiftly and easily check if your site is having a downtime and see why it’s down if its due to your own fault or your hosting supplier.

Why be concerned about downtimes?

Keeping your website up and running 24×7 x 365  is just not possible, though many hosting providers offer guaranteed  99.9% uptime it is really impossible to achieve. You may lose potential revenue and viewers due to frequent downtimes and may never know about it since you cannot monitor your site all the time. Having a automated system monitor your websites will allow you to gauge the number of downtimes you are having on your current host and help your decide if you need to move to another server or host.

More About Montastic

Montastic is a free to use website monitoring tool that allows you to monitor your website for downtimes. You receive email alerts whenever your website is not accessible. The service checks your website every 6 minutes or so to check if it is still up and working. You also get a simple email alert when your site is back up and running.

It Is Free so it must be rubbish?

Montastic is created and maintained by enthusiastic developers  and after using it for a few months I have hardly found any free website tools that can match this service.  I have been asked does it send a email everytime my website goes down and all I can say is yes!

Remember this is a free service so if it only emailed me 9 out 10 downtimes then that’s better than nothing is it not?

Take a gamble it might surprise you!
