What Is E-A-T?

E-E-A-T is not a specific ranking factor on Google search, but rather a framework in its Search Rater Quality Guidelines.

Formerly known as just “E-A-T”, the extra E for Experience was added in late 2022.

It is essentially what Google uses to decide whether a webpage has high-quality content. Google wants to make sure that the websites it ranks highly in search results are trustworthy and provide accurate, helpful information.

Experience

The premise here is that Google puts an emphasis on content that demonstrates that the author actually has some sort of first-hand experience with or about the topic for which they are writing.

Expertise

This means the content creator should have a good knowledge of what they are talking about. It’s like when your teacher knows a lot about a subject, they are an expert in it.

Authoritativeness

This is about the reputation of the content creator and the website. It’s like if a well-known scientist writes about a topic, we are likely to trust the information because they are an authority in that field.

Trustworthiness

Google wants to make sure the website and the content are reliable and safe. Trustworthy sites should also have clear information about who is responsible for the site and how to contact them.

All four components of E-E-A-T are important because they help ensure that users are getting the best, most accurate, and most reliable information possible when they use Google to search for information. When creating content, it’s important to keep these principles in mind to have a better chance of ranking higher in Google search results.
